What is a Training Assistant?
A training assistant is a volunteer who agrees to raise a puppy in their home for BASK so that it can one day become a service dog. At approximately eight weeks of age the puppy goes to live with an approved training assistant for eighteen months. During that time the training assistant plays the key role in the training, socialization and development of the puppy.
What is Involved in Being a Training Assistant?
-Attend a weekly training class with your pup.
-Teach your puppy excellent house manners.
-When the puppy is of appropriate age, take your puppy on “field trips” to expose them to new environments.
-Submit a weekly communication sheet to your trainer.
